How to Build and Structure Your Pitch Deck
Developing Your Pitch Deck Means Working on Your Strategy
I like working on pitch decks because they represent the essence of a company's strategy. Whether just an idea or already Series B or C, to build it you have to go through all of the elements of your product and business strategy. That means reviewing and refining what makes your company better and unique in the marketplace.
Building a compelling pitch deck requires a strategy development process in itself, with market and customer research, development of moats / competitive advantage and financial and investment planning. And when it all comes together, founders are well-equipped to tackle the fund-raising process with ease and confidence.
Pitch decks have 4 main sections:
🔹 Core - Market & Growth Drivers, Target Customers, Product
🔹 Competition - Comparable Businesses, Competitive Advantage
🔹 Money - Financials, Business Model, Funding Needs
🔹 Company - Team, Current Traction, Growth Path
Each of these sections has key elements that make the deck and funding pitch compelling, that you can find in the template below. It is inspired by my work helping founders build their decks and from those of successful companies, such as LinkedIn, Shopify, Carta and Square.
You can also download it from The Strategy Deck’s Resources page.
