Betterleap, IOMED, Mindtrip, Sixfold, Co:Helm, Paxton AI and Advocate Are Among the Early Stage AI Assistants Who Received Funding in 2023
Generative AI’s potential to speed up and ease administrative tasks across a wide range of sectors enabled a flurry of funding rounds for enterprise Vertical Assistants start-ups in 2023, which is likely to continue through the end of the year. Here are another seven early stage companies, defined as Pre-Seed through Series A, that are building in the healthcare, legal, recruiting, government and insurance spaces.
Betterleap is an AI-powered outbound recruiting platform that is targeted at talent teams, recruiting firms, VC talent partners and solo recruiters. The tool helps recruiters source, reach out to candidates and collaborate with other HR professionals from one platform. It comes with a Chrome extension which makes it easy to discover potential candidates on LinkedIn, add them to projects and find their email addresses. It also creates multi-step email sequences to send personalized emails to potential candidates using GPT technology. And last, but not least, it enables a collaborative recruiting experience through its features that can share projects with recruiters outside of the user’s company – like recruiting agencies and talent partners at VC firms.
Based in San Francisco, CA, Betterleap last raised a US$13M Seed round in September 2023 from VCs including a16z, Peakstate Ventures, Stipple Ventures, Air Angels, Streamlined Ventures and Active Capital. IOMED is building a platform for the management and analysis of healthcare data that will enable even better data-driven decisions for medical providers. It is developing a Natural Language Processing system capable of standardizing both structured and unstructured clinical data from a hospital's information systems into the OMOP Common Data Model. Its Federated Data Model allows hospitals to store their own data within the hospital facilities and share with other medical providers to make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.
With the tagline “We Are Healthcare Data Activators”, IOMED is based in Bercalona Spain and it last raised a EUR10M Series A round in September 2023 from VCs including Philips Ventures, XTX Ventures, Fondo Bolsa Social and Redseed.
Mindtrip is building a travel-focused AI assistant that will ensure that a trip planning and booking happen all in one place, with a sense of purpose and advice, and without a human travel agent. Mindtrip will go into public beta toward the end of 2023, when it will facilitate building and organizing of trips by asking it questions to which it can add imagery, geographical, time and availability information.
Based in San Francisco, CA Mindtrip raised a US$7M Seed round in September 2023 from Costanoa Ventures.
Co:Helm is building a ChatGPT-enabled assistant for health plan operations aimed at reducing operational costs and improving accuracy. Where it might take a nurse several hours to track down, organize and summarize hundreds of pages of records they need, Co:Helm can do it in seconds, allowing clinicians to reduce administrative overhead and focus on helping patients. It can help with prior authorization submissions, customer support calls and rules extraction from plan documents. The tool integrates with Case Review and EHR and EMR systems and is being developed with security, privacy and regulatory compliance in mind.
Based in New York, NY, Co:Helm is an alumni of Sequoia’s AI incubator, Arc, and last raised a US$3.3M Seed round from Sequoia, Four Acres Capital, Blue Lion Capital and Anamcara Capital in September 2023.
Paxton AI is a legal assistant built on a Retrieval Augmented Generative AI framework to ensure it provides accurate, consistent citations. With a goal to bridge the gap between cutting-edge artificial intelligence and the nuanced and very human world of law, the tool helps people learn new areas of regulation, draft and compare documents and deepen discovery and research. Built on a law library of over 60 million documents, including all published federal case law, all published state case law above the district level, all federal and state statutes, as well as financial regulations, guidance, and filings, Paxton AI acts as a paralegal who can put together briefs, memos, motions and more and ask questions and summarize the contents of legal documents, including those of opposing counsel.
Based in Portland, OR, the company raised a US$6M Seed round in September 2023 from VCs including AI Fund, R&R Ventures, Gaingels, Unusual Ventures, Identity Ventures, Voyager Capital and Plug and Play Ventures. Its competitors include Harvey and AI Lawyer.
Advocate is an AI assistant that works on making applying for Social Security and Veterans Disability faster, easier and more accessible for over 80 million eligible Americans. Designed to work alongside expert human case managers, Advocate’s technology will ensure case filings are accurate, comprehensive, and in compliance with all pertinent government rules and regulations before submission.
Based in New York, NY, Advocate raised a US$4M Seed round in June 2023 led by Lerer Hippeau with participation by Khosla Ventures.
Sixfold aims to bring accuracy, pattern recognition, safety & scale with generative AI to the insurance industry. Its tool is meant to automate workflows for underwriters and help with the evaluation of submissions, collection of relevant data from 3rd-party and proprietary sources, recognize patterns, write summaries and provide quotes. The automation brought by AI is meant to speed up risk assessment, make underwriting decisions easier and provide full traceability and summaries of conclusions.
Based in New York, NY, Sixfold raised a US$6.5M Seed round in May 2023 from VCs including Bessemer and Crystal Venture Partners.
